Non-Cosmetic Reasons to Consider Veneers

Veneers are a cost-effective way to improve your smile without overly expensive dental work. But is that all they are good for? While veneers can create a perfect front-facing smile that hides imperfections in your teeth, they can also deliver a number of benefits that are more functional.

At Hudson River Dental Arts, Jennifer Sunkin, DMD, provides customized, natural-looking veneers to create smiles that are both brilliant and functional to improve the self-confidence and quality of health of her patients.

Veneers 101

Veneers are wafer-thin porcelain shells that fit over the front surfaces of your teeth and look just like normal teeth. When Dr. Sunkin sees you for a veneers consultation, she works with you to design a look you'll love, then takes precise dental molds of your teeth. She sends the molds off to have the veneers custom-fabricated to fit perfectly over your natural teeth.

Your veneers arrive in about two weeks, and Dr. Sunkin puts them on during an easy office visit. She carefully shaves the barest amount of enamel away so your veneers lie flat, then bonds them in place permanently. Veneers can last a decade or more without needing revision or replacement, as long as you take care of them.

Non-cosmetic benefits of veneers

In addition to covering up stained teeth or an uneven smile, veneers also provide functional benefits that can improve your health.

Bite

Veneers can realign your bite, helping to decrease any jaw pain or unpleasant teeth grinding. If your teeth are uneven and some hit the other arch before others, veneers could provide a solution.

Speech

You can get rid of a lisp or slurred speech with veneers. If your speech is impacted by teeth with gaps or severe chips, veneers can restore the natural shape of your mouth and allow you to speak clearly.

Dining

Do you hate eating in public or have trouble chewing certain kinds of foods? When your teeth are whole and even, you can eat foods normally and chew each bite completely. This makes it more comfortable for you to eat in public and can aid digestion.

Psyche

Your mental and emotional state can be negatively affected if you don’t like your smile. If chips, cracks, stains, or gaps make you self-conscious, veneers can restore your confidence, making you feel more at ease at work, home, and play.

If you have been considering veneers but didn’t know about the non-cosmetic benefits, you just got another very good reason to find out more. You can book your consultation with Dr. Sunkin today by using our online scheduling tool or calling our office in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
